14 - 42 - 70 mile courses
The Parsons Police Officers Association is proud to invite you to join us for the ELEVENTH ANNUAL OSAGE PRAIRIE BICYCLE TOUR. This event is sponsored by the Parsons Police Officers Association, with the assistance of local volunteers, as a charity event to raise funds for local youth organizations.
The 70 mile course will take you from Parsons through the towns of Altamont, Bartlett, Edna, Mound Valley, Dennis and back to Parsons. Riders on this course should be sure they can negotiate several hills as well as the distance. The 40 mile course will take you from the city of Parsons to the towns of Altamont, Mound Valley, and Dennis before returning to Parsons. The 15 mile course will travel around and through Parsons. All routes are on paved State and County roads. The OSAGE PRAIRIE BICYCLE TOUR will let you experience the sights and sounds of spring in farming country where the Prairie meets the Ozarks. You will witness the land coming to life with spring in full bloom. Deer and wild turkey are not uncommon sights along any of these routes, and new baby calves have been seen in the green pastures. You will not only ride along pasture and farm land and over rolling hills, but also along paved back roads and highways. (routes and miles are subject to change due to road conditions and etc.)
The entry fee for the 42 and 70 mile course is $25.00 if you pre-register - it will be $30.00 the day of the ride. The entry fee for the 14 mile course is $15.00 if you pre-register - it will be $20.00 the day of the ride. Included with your entry fee will be the water stops, sag service, and an OSAGE PRAIRIE BICYCLE TOUR T-shirt. To insure receiving a T-shirt on the day of the ride, your pre-registration form must be received by April 21, 2008.
All RIDERS WILL BE REQUIRED TO WEAR A HELMET. THE PARSONS POLICE OFFICERS ASSOCIATION IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ACCIDENTS.
All courses will begin and end at the shelter house in Forest Park at the intersection of Heacock and Grand Streets. This is located 4 blocks east of 16th Street (U.S. 59) on Main Street to Heacock, then 4 blocks south to Grand.
In case of rain, the ride will be delayed in 15 minute incriminates until 10:00 a.m. If the weather is still too inclement to ride, the 70 mile ride will be canceled and the 42 and 14 mile rides will be postponed until 12:00 noon.
